The Cascades run drops fourteen kilometres from the top of Flaine down to Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval, some 1,800 vertical metres, without taking a single lift on the way. It crosses the Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval nature reserve and passes the waterfalls it is named after. It belongs to the Grand Massif, 265 kilometres of piste and 139 runs served by 62 lifts between 700 and 2,500 metres, linking Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt. Flaine repays attention in its own right: laid out from 1968 by the Bauhaus architect Marcel Breuer, listed as Twentieth Century Heritage in 2008, and scattered with open-air works by Picasso, Dubuffet and Vasarely.
