Ski Holiday Les Coches

Les Coches, at around 1,450 m, overlooks Montchavin, to which it is linked by the Coches gondola. From Montchavin-Les Coches, the Vanoise Express leads to Peisey-Vallandry and Les Arcs. When renting in Les Coches, some accommodation is 50 m from the slopes, and the Backgammon sleeps up to 16 people.

Montchavin-Les Coches keeps the feel of a Savoyard village, with its wood-and-stone chalets, cobbled lanes and a farm that is still working. The atmosphere is family-friendly, and the ESF welcomes beginner children in its Piou Piou, Ourson and Flocon clubs, with some lessons in Les Coches.

In Les Coches, two lifts take you up: the Lac Noir gondola, towards the upper runs and the beginner area, and the Télébuffette, towards runs for skiers who are already confident.

The Les Coches beginner area is free, and the Plan Bois - Les Petits Loups area also welcomes first steps, very close to Montchavin. The ESF Montchavin-Les Coches gives lessons to adults and children alike, from discovery to advanced level. Next, we recommend the green run from the top of the Lac Noir, then the Mont Blanc blue run once the basics are in place.

The La Plagne ski area offers 225 km of runs, up to 3,250 m in altitude. Close by, the less busy Montchavin red run descends from the Montchavin chairlift towards the village, and Pierres Blanches helps you move up from blue to red. To head to Les Arcs and Peisey-Vallandry via the Vanoise Express, take the Paradiski ski pass.

Without skis, the Coches gondola is free for pedestrians. Together with the Lac Noir gondola, it leads to viewpoints over the Mont Blanc range.

The easy Boucle de Plan Bois starts from Les Coches or Montchavin and can be reached by gondola. The Praz Salvard trail links Montchavin and Les Coches, on foot or on snowshoes.

On a day without lessons, take them to the free sledging area of Montchavin-Les Coches. On foot, the recommended ages range from 6 to 10 years depending on the route: Plan Bois - Les Coches via Praz Salvard is suitable from 10 years old. Keep the Espace Paradisio, with its aquatic and wellness facilities, for après-ski or a rest day.

To stay in the centre of Les Coches, at the foot of the slopes and shops, look at La Traverse or Les Pentes: mainly studios and 2-3 room apartments for up to 6 people, some 50 m from the slopes. At La Traverse, most accommodation has a parking space. To be close to ski lessons, Le Damier, a recent residence near the Plan Bois chairlift, has one property 150 m from the ski school.

The Backgammon has our largest properties this winter, sleeping up to 16 people, alongside its 2-3 room apartments. Some accommodation is 100 m from the slopes and you can ski back to the door. The individual ski lockers are in a heated room with boot warmers. Our customers rate it 4.2 out of 5. Le Carrousel also has large apartments for up to 8 people, some 100 m from the slopes.

If you are looking for a studio or a 2-3 room apartment near the lift ticket office and the centre, look at Le de 1 or Le de 2. For the view, Le Boulier, a renovated residence, looks out over the valley and Mont Blanc, less than 200 m from the slopes.

Landry SNCF railway station is the nearest one for Montchavin-Les Coches. By car, you go up on the D225 from Landry or on the D220 from La Plagne Tarentaise.
