Ski Holiday Les Villards

Les Villards is right on the Arc 1800 snow front, and the gondola of the same name goes up to Mille 8, the easy sector for first turns. When renting in Les Villards, choose your residence according to your priority: the Tournavelles for accommodation 10 m from the slopes, L’Écrin to sleep up to 12 people, Nova 3 for budget.

Here, you forget the car: the village is car-free, with its tiered residences and open-air shopping arcades, a modernist architecture that bears the signature of Charlotte Perriand in particular. Shops, ski rental outlets and the Tourist Office can all be reached on foot.

We mainly welcome families here, and the district lends itself to it: 95% of our accommodation in Les Villards is less than 150 m from a ski school. Good skiers, for their part, have a ski area that rises to 3,250 metres.

Skiing starts on the snow front, where the Villards gondola goes up to Mille 8. To reach Peisey-Vallandry, then a large part of Paradiski, take the Transarc 1 and 2 gondolas.

For first turns, we recommend going up to Mille 8 and coming back down via Les Minis, a fun green run that returns to Arc 1800. Wide and easy, the Villards run starts from the district and suits beginners as well as those who want to ski at a gentle pace. The Arc 1800 ski schools, including the ESF, teach children and adults.

With 200 km of runs up to 3,250 m, including 50 blue runs, Les Arcs - Peisey-Vallandry leaves room to manoeuvre when not everyone skis at the same level.

Barmont is a pleasant blue run, more demanding on its upper half, which ends gently towards Vallandry. Experienced skiers aim for the Aiguille Rouge, from the glacier to the forest down to Villaroger: 7 km and about 2,026 m of vertical drop. And to go skiing in La Plagne, Paradiski links it to Les Arcs via the Vanoise Express.

Without skis, you will find a swimming pool, wellness centres and a bowling alley in Les Villards and Le Charvet.

The youngest have their snow garden on the Les Villards snow front, on the Tournavelles side, and Arc 1800 has a day nursery. In summer, older children ride down by Mountain Kart from the Villards gondola, over 1 km, from age 12 and 1.40 m tall.

A guided discovery snowshoe hike starts from Les Villards near the Tournavelles, for about 2 hours 30 minutes. Without a guide or lift, the Sentier des Sapins and other marked loops go around the resort. Right at the top, the Aiguille Rouge footbridge opens up the view at more than 3,200 metres.

Save room for local produce: Beaufort, farmhouse charcuterie and génépi. Raclette and fondue are also available to take away or to order in some of the resort's shops, for a dinner in the apartment.

To choose a rental in Les Villards, start from what will matter on site: the children's first lessons, the size of the group or the car to park.

With young children, we recommend first Tournavelles 1 or Tournavelles 2, above the shopping arcade: some accommodation is 10 m from the slopes and the ski school. Depending on the orientation, the balcony looks out over the slopes or over the valley and its sunsets. Just below the snow front, Nova 1 has some accommodation 20 m from the slopes and the ski school, with ski-in return.

To travel as a large group, look at L’Écrin: our largest properties there sleep up to 12 people, and the residence has a spa with sauna and hammam. Tournavelles 2 sleeps up to 10 people. As for budget, Nova 3 was the least expensive of our residences in February over the last two winters, with mostly studios and 2-3 room apartments for up to 7 people. If you come by car, more than half of its accommodation has a parking space; the adjoining covered car park is limited to 1.80 m in height.

By train, arrive at Bourg-Saint-Maurice: the funicular then goes up to Arc 1600, and a shuttle continues to Arc 1800. In the resort, the free shuttles serve the Villards stop.
